Learning To Communicate

We know that many damaged relationships are a result of miscommunication, and today we live in world strife-torn in part from these damaged relationships—on personal, community, national, and international levels.

To complicate matters, most people on the planet have not only damaged relationships with each other and other groups, but they have damaged relationships with God and with all of His ministering personalities who are reaching out to us, our celestial friends.

The mind is the indispensable channel of communication, person to person, and even between spirit and material realities. So, when we have limited minds, small minds, minds that have many locks on them, and aren’t willing to expand and open, it is difficult for us humans to achieve better communication. We can tie ourselves up in knots basically, feeling misunderstood or having misunderstood someone ourselves. These injuries (or “perceived” injuries), left unattended to fester, lead to genuine hurtful conflicts and needless separations occur—be in it family life or on greater communal and national scales.

So what can we begin to do to find more effective ways of communicating, to genuinely resolve (and even prevent) the wounds and consequences of miscommunications?

There are two very important standards by which to judge the effectiveness of communication.

It’s the understanding between the individuals who are communicating as well as spiritual ascension that are important here. Those are the standards by which to measure communication. If communication improves the quality of the relationship between two or more people and encourages spiritual growth, we must judge it from an overall standpoint to be effective. If it creates confusion, misunderstanding, distortions, suspicion, or antipathy in human relations and within the individual, we must conclude it to be ineffective.

All involved in the communication process must take responsibility for its effectiveness or ineffectiveness. The one who is initiating the communicating must do all in his or her power to make clear the message he or she is trying to get across. But the receiver of the message must be a true listener and hear what is really being communicated. The communicator may be doing a tremendous job in conveying the message, but the hearer or receiver may have his or her own agenda or ideas that taint or block the real message coming through and so the message is misunderstood or distorted.

Many individuals will misinterpret or distort very clear messages due to their own erroneous understanding of reality, literally blocking the neurotransmitters in the brain and the parts of the ear from functioning properly. So, many will not receive communication clearly whether it is coming from a human, a ministering celestial friend, or an inner spiritual influence. This distortion of information reception functions at many levels, from the soul to the mindal to the emotional to actual physical malfunctioning.Guiding spiritual forces have often failed in communicating to humans, not because the spiritual forces did not know how to communicate effectively but because the human receiver did not receive it effectively.

When we attempt to communicate, we must take into consideration our own agendas and emotions.

This is where spiritual insight is of utmost importance. We must discern whether the situation calls for a more fatherly, firm, and direct approach or a more motherly, gentle, softer attempt.

Are we speaking to the soul or are we speaking to the emotions or to the reason or to the integrity of the individuals? We should always attempt to speak to the higher mind, the superconscious—which would include the soul, the higher emotions, the spiritualised mind, and the integrity of the receivers. As we evolve spiritually in mind and in heart, we will develop that spiritual sensitivity that is needed to be an effective communicator, truly responding as our brother’s (and sister’s) keeper, with benevolence in our hearts and minds and words.

Do we have emotions or old patterns that get in the way of hearing from the giver of the message? Each individual has much to deal with in their life, and combining all of our individual needs into one big melting pot can present quite the challenge.Reaching for higher spiritual values and turning to our unseen yet ever-present celestial friends—including those wonderful angels of enlightenment—will provide much needed help in upstepping our modes of communication with one another.

Whether trying to hear what another human or a celestial friend is saying to us, we must ask the following questions:

  • Are our own egos and pride blocking our receptivity?
  • Are our inappropriate ties to certain ideas, beliefs, people, or lifestyles getting in the way of receiving the message clearly?
  • Do we have a charge with the person that is trying to communicate with us?

Communication should ultimately serve to lower or remove any barriers of misunderstanding that unduly separate us from one another and prevent us from being totally aligned in God’s divine pattern, truly enabling us to become the stewards of this earth and each other that our Creator intended.

In the process of community building, including individual and group healing as well as spiritual ascension, individual differences and erroneous patterns must first be allowed to surface and be dealt with so that the group can ultimately learn to accept or resolve differences and dispel the darkness of misunderstanding and resentment, moving on into the light of reconciliation and celebration of who we really are as individuals and as a group.Only then will we be the powerful and effective communicators of encouraging and enlightening messages that can help bring about healing transformation for individuals and for our world.

When you are communicating with others in whatever walks of life your find yourself in, you must learn to communicate effectively. And with the help of various spiritual forces, you can develop discernment in knowing what God wants you, as well as the individual or group you are working with, to truly hear and act upon.

Each of us needs to focus on that individual or the group and ask questions to find out their beliefs and their experiences.Be interested in them as human beings, as individuals. It’s an effective communication technique to build and expand upon others’ systems of beliefs and their foundation of experiences. It is truly a bridge-building exercise.

Your responsibility is to be clear and concise in your presentation of information. And if the receiver does not receive it, then the ineffectiveness of the communication is in their end, not yours, perhaps due to their own blockages within their minds and souls.

What are some of those blockages in the mind? Well they can be established ideas and beliefs that you don’t want to let go of; or beliefs that a person doesn’t want to question at all; laziness of the intellect to work when confronted with some new and challenging ideal or fact; the lower emotions of fear and a tendency to deny the validity of information that rocks their comfort zone; pride in a person who won’t acknowledge that changes need to be made within him or her; and an unwillingness within the individual to realize that someone else may have something to teach them.

I want to close with two questions that I feel we can all benefit from by reflecting upon.(You may even want to write about these and do some personal journaling in these areas.)

  • What do you see as some of your own blockages that prevent you from being an effective communicator, whether you are giving or receiving?
  • Who are some of those people you have a difficult time communicating with?(Pick at least two.)Then focus on those individuals and answer this question after prayerfully considering it: Why do you have such a difficulty communicating with them? Why?

This is to help you to begin to try to open up to receive guidance from the living spiritual forces, to understand why you may have problems communicating with some individuals so that you can begin to try to solve that problem. You want to look at general blockages that you might have and what you can do to “clean up your side of the street” in all your communications—whether giving or receiving information.

And if we all change just our self, then we can wake up tomorrow as one global community, truly communicating, caring and sharing with each other in the highest ways to bring immediate peace and the unification spiritually of all peoples of the planet.I look forward to that day!
